Shooting: India’s Consistent Aim for International Success
Shooting has quietly become one of India’s most successful sports on the international stage, with Indian shooters consistently winning medals at the Olympics, World Cups, and other prestigious competitions. The rise of young talents like Saurabh Chaudhary, Manu Bhaker, and Elavenil Valarivan has put India on the global shooting map.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India came close to adding to its medal tally in shooting, but despite the near misses, the country’s shooters continued to excel in subsequent World Cups. In 2023, India topped the medal tally at the ISSF World Cup, with strong performances from shooters like Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Rahi Sarnobat. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has been instrumental in nurturing this success, investing in state-of-the-art training facilities and international exposure for its athletes.
One of the key drivers of India’s success in shooting has been its focus on grassroots development. The NRAI, in collaboration with several private academies, has been identifying and training young talent from an early age. The Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi serves as a world-class training facility, regularly hosting international competitions and training camps.
India’s shooters have high hopes for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they are aiming for multiple medals. With a blend of experienced shooters and young talent, India’s shooting future looks bright, and the country is expected to continue its dominance in the sport for years to come.
